What is this course

The NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice is an Ofqual-regulated, UK-accredited competence-based qualification designed for experienced health and safety professionals seeking senior-level recognition. This National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) is specifically structured for those who already hold significant strategic health and safety responsibilities and wish to achieve Graduate Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (Grad IOSH) as a pathway to Chartered status (CMIOSH).

The course covers advanced health and safety responsibilities including developing and implementing health and safety management systems, influencing organisational safety culture at board level, managing strategic risk, developing policy and procedures, monitoring performance, and leading major incident investigations. Learners develop competence in corporate risk management, legal compliance auditing, strategic health and safety planning, and board-level communication.

The NVQ Level 6 Diploma is fully aligned with UK legislation including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, Management Regulations 1999, RIDDOR 2013, COSHH 2002, PUWER 1998, LOLER 1998, and CDM 2015. The qualification is benchmarked at the same level as a UK bachelor's degree with honours and is recognised by employers across all sectors.

Prerequisites

Course Entry Requirements

To enroll in the NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice, learners should meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Hold a relevant Level 3 qualification or equivalent.
  • Applicant must be currently employed in a health and safety role with significant responsibilities and have sufficient practical experience to demonstrate competence in the workplace
