Course Entry Requirements

The ProQual Level 5 Diploma in Fire Safety and Risk Management is designed for professionals aiming to advance their expertise in managing fire safety and risk across a variety of settings. To enrol in this qualification, applicants are expected to meet the following entry requirements:

  • Applicants must be 18 years or older at the time of enrollment
  • A Level 4 qualification (or equivalent) in Fire Safety, Health and Safety, Risk Management, or a related technical field
  • Minimum 2–3 years of relevant work experience in fire safety, risk assessment, emergency planning, or related roles across industries such as construction, manufacturing, energy, or facilities management
  • Strong ability to read, write, and communicate in English to complete written assignments, workplace-based assessments, and research projects

Course Content

Detailed Curriculum Structure

ProQual Level 5 Diploma in Fire Safety and Risk Management consists of 6 mandatory units having 267 GLH and 300 Hours TQT. Candidates must complete all of the following Mandatory units.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Be able to define the statutory Fire Safety requirements for buildings in the UK
  • Be able to evaluate plans to determine fire risks associated with construction design
  • Be able to evaluate planned use of materials and their effectiveness
  • Be able to report on risks with recommendations to support appropriate risk reduction measures, fire precautions and maintenance routines

Learning Outcomes:

  • Know how to identify and assess arrangements ensuring an adequate means of warning and escape
  • Be able to assess arrangements relating to the emergency planning and evacuation of the building occupants
  • Be able to inspect the equipment providing emergency escape from the premises
  • Be able to review the management of Fire Safety in relation to providing a means of escape

  • Know how to identify and assess fire related hazards and ensure the implementation of adequate controls
  • Be able to identify and report hazards and risks associated with fire
  • Be able to assess risks associated with fire
  • Be able to review the management of Fire Safety in relation to controlling fire hazards

  • Be able to understand and apply fire protection provisions
  • Be able to determine the need for active fire protection systems and equipment
  • Be able to ensure adequate facilities are in place to provide access to the Fire Service
  • Be able to review the management of Fire Safety in relation to fire protection

  • Understand and apply the appropriate principles of prevention
  • Be able to demonstrate competence to inspect passive fire protection to prevent internal fire spread
  • Understand the risk of external fire spread to the premises
  • Review the management of Fire Safety in relation to fire spread

Learning Outcomes:

  • Be able to identify potential problems arising from the likely behaviour of people in the premises during a fire situation
  • Understand the Fire Safety requirements for Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO)
  • Understand the Fire Safety requirements for Care Homes
